Congressman Jason Chaffetz has impressed me since the day he took office.
I believe if more in political office would follow his example and others that this country would much better off.
Read for yourself- taken from the Daily Herald February 18, 2010
For starters, on examples of where to dispose of wasteful spending, he said in the past eight months, the number of civilian federal employees earning $150,000 or more has doubled. In the U.S. Department of Transportation only 18 months ago, there was only one employee making more than $170,000. Today there are 1,700 making that income, he said.
“How many jobs can you think of that deserve six figures working for the federal government?” Chaffetz said. “Seriously. It’s not justified.”
He supports across-the-board budget cuts in federal agencies such as transportation. Chaffetz also favors a decrease in the capital gains tax and said moving to a flat tax for federal income would help reduce the deficit.
It’s the role of entrepreneurs, not the federal government, to create new jobs, he said. Washington can help by managing the framework conducive to allow businesses to flourish, not creating barriers to that end through rules, regulations and taxes.
And yes Chaffetz claimed he was a democrat, that is before he learned to read and write!
I love his final comment in the article:
“My job is to represent Utah in Washington, not Washington in Utah,”
Great work. Keep it up!

A nations life consisteth not in the abundance of things that it possesseth; but in the spirit and manners of the people.
Instead of experiencing a change of heart, we bend our wits to devise a change in mechanics, and then another and another in an attempt to solve the social ills of society.

It is really no suprise that the American people have a natural tendency to view those in office with a skeptics eye.
The reasons seem as easy to see as the nightly news that displays the corruption, lying, broken promises and general misconduct that permeates positions of power and supposed leadership.
Why do We The People continue to put up with this sort of conduct?
I propose that each individual in office of neccesity needs to be held to a higher standard of conduct.
To easily is misconduct chalked up to human error or weakness. Seriously, should we not expect more and hold them to a higher standard swiftly holding them accountable for the actions they take as elected represenatives? I say we should- they are suppose to be the best of the best of society with a mind and will to voice the concerns, hopes and dreams of the individuals the represent.
Those in office need an amount of humility to recognize the proper role they serve in. They are not elected as the end all be all intellectual righteous who flex their mind to solve societies ills, but rather as represenatives who express the voice of the people recognizing always that it was through the voice of the people they even have the opportunity to serve.
This is not a game nor a forum for personal ideology or hidden agenda.
Any politician should never expect to get elected based on star power or presentaion alone but rather substance and understanding of the principles of freedom that have made this country great.
What do you think? Where do you stand? What do you expect out of those elected to serve us?
These are not hard questions nor should they be.

It is very interesting to watch the shift among political leaders that is not based on any core principle or practice but rather on a popular ideology or personal perceived reality.
It seems that the focus and energy of many individuals with so called power are aimed at digging in heels and defending a position while at the same time trying to diminish or belittle an opponent.
I think American is waking to a reality of how self serving many in political office really are.
Transparency comes through education and understanding the true principles that freedom are based upon.
Regardless of the intent of those in office- or how well meaning they think they are- the truth is and always has to be founded on principles that never change. Those same principles that made this nation great and act as the foundation of our freedom.
There is no place for ego or personal agenda- rather there ought to be a feeling after of what is right for the simple sake of being right. I really think much of the disgust with political leaders today is how easy they are bought off or swayed on principle by promises of whatever kind from those higher in power.
It is vital to know and understand for oneself priciples of freedom. It is then and only then you can stand and discern for yourself not being swayed by one side or the other or one political philosophy or the other.
Education and understanding true principles of freedom can never be stated enough as the foundation of freedom and liberty.

“It is upon the law that socialism itself relies. Socialists desire to practice legal plunder, not illegal plunder. Socialists, like all other monopolists, desire to make the law their own weapon. And when once the law is on the side of socialism, how can it be used against socialism? For when plunder is abetted by the law, it does not fear your courts, your gendarmes, and your prisons. Rather, it may call upon them for help.” (Frederica Bastiat, The Law)
So what of socialism? How is it identified? What are its practices? Its philosophy? Its habits? Its damning influence? And who are the people who promote this?
